After a lot of ping pong moves involving a grand jury in Miami to bring indictments, and after those were brought to Florida, Smith bounced back to use the DC Grand Jury to continue to use the DC Grand Jury to bring evidence from DC to Florida.
Judge Cannon gave her ruling at special counsel on 8-7-2023, striking two of the prosecutors’ sealed filings and demanding an explanation of “the legal propriety of using an out-of-district grand jury proceeding to continue to investigate” the docs case.
