Tonight at the GOP Debate Dr. Ben Carson denied any association with promoting the company Mannatech. He immediately received booing from the crowd, then he tried to turn it around that the crowd was booing the question. He denied any promoting of the company. Yet as National Review‘s Jim Geraghty points out, as recently as a year ago in March 2014, Carson appeared in a video for Mannatech, Inc., a Texas-based medical supplement maker. Smiling into the camera, he extolled the benefits of the Mannatech’s “glyconutrient” products, claiming they are “natural diet as a medicine or as a mechanism for maintaining health” and that the products would “restore” the “healthy food” that “God had made for us.”
Carson’s interactions with Mannatech date back 10 years to 2004, when he was a speaker at the company’s annual conferences, MannaFest and MannaQuest. More and more I truly do not know what Carson’s motives truly are. Nor do I trust anything he says unless it is a real no brainer. No pun intended.
It is a fact that Carson appeared in a video promoting its glyconutrient products and also spoke at the company’s conferences in 2011 and 2013. When asked about Carson’s appearances for Mannatech, his business manager and Farrakhan Nation of Islam Supporter, Armstrong Williams said, “I don’t know that he’s ever had a compensated relationship with Mannatech. All we know is that the Washington Speaker’s Bureau, which booked hundreds of speaking engagements for him through the year, booked these engagements. He had no idea who these people are. (yet at the debate Carson did realize who these people were as he stated that he still uses the Mannatech products and will continue to do so). Williams went on to say, “The question should be asked to the Washington Speakers Bureau, when did they have a relationship with Mannatech, because Dr. Carson never had one.”
Yet Carson in an interview January 2015 with Newsmax, is fully aware of Mannatech, and even mentions Sam Castor of the company and how Sam stressed to all the sales representatives not to make medical claims about the product. Carson also stated that he was compensated for the speech for Mannatech. So Armstrong Williams lied too. (See video below)
Williams also stated that Carson won’t personally be answering any questions about his interactions with the company, “because that is the decision that has been made.” Well, tonight at the GOP 2016 debate, Carson was asked and out right lied.
At the Washington Speakers Bureau, Carson is listed as a level-6 speaker, meaning his fee is more than $40,000 per speech.
One of the key statements Carson made in the video that he doesn’t remember making is, “Many of the natural things are not included in our diet. Basically what the company is doing is trying to find a way to restore natural diet as a medicine or as a mechanism for maintaining health.”
It’s a known fact that you could get more of the nutrients you need like protein, Iron, B vitamins etc., if you ate a bit of meat. But Carson is a vegetarian for religious reasons, so he won’t promote that. Even though the Bible is clear that all foods are to be consumed with blessing.

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who was attorney general in 2007 when he sued the company, disagreed with Carson’s philosophy, and accused Mannatech of using “deceptive practices [which] pose a health risk to seriously-ill consumers who may forgo traditional medical attention because of the company’s false claims.” In 2009, National Review reported, the company paid $4 million in restitution to consumers but admitted no wrongdoing.
Another unfortunate incident involved a child with Tay-Sachs disease who died after being treated with the Mannatech Products. The mother of the child also sued the company.

Ironically, none of this stopped Carson from continuing to promote Mannatech. He continued to be a speaker for the company. Carson’s business manager Armstrong Williams, simply passed the buck to the Washington Speakers Bureau, pointing a finger at them for setting up Carson’s speaking engagements. It was there fault.
Carson also appeared in a PBS special in which he praised glyconutrients after he clearly understood the down side of these products. Which is why I am not trusting any of Carson’s expert advice regarding vaccines. I, like Carson, will trust in the words of the Holy Bible. Proverbs: 26: 28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
So, even though Carson has said, “It is okay to lie as long as nobody gets hurt.” I must remember that just because someone means well for themselves, does not mean it will mean well for you. I recall more words of wisdom from Carson’s favorite book of the Bible – Proverbs.
Proverbs 26: 25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. 26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation. 27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
In closing, I will say this, “Caveat Emptor” (Let the buyer beware.)
