WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH TED'S HAND INSIDE THE COAT?

What’s up with the hand inside coat thing?  Napoleon style?  Or the old establishment thing?  Just wondering?
I guess it is his new signature?  Or is it a fantasy to follow in the footsteps of famous men?  Or is it something else?  Erie all the same.
